Technical Specifications
Camp Nou features a distinctive oval-shaped design by architects Francesc Mitjans and Josep Soteras, with a maximum height of 48 metres and a footprint covering approximately 55,000 square metres. The stadium includes multiple tiers for optimal sightlines, a hybrid grass pitch meeting UEFA standards, and extensive facilities for fans and hospitality. The ongoing renovation under the Espai Barça project is adding a full retractable roof, modernized concourses, improved accessibility, expanded VIP areas, and enhanced structural elements while preserving its historic character.

History
Camp Nou was constructed between 1954 and 1957 to accommodate FC Barcelona’s growing supporter base after the old Les Corts stadium became inadequate. It opened in 1957 with an initial capacity of around 93,000, which was later expanded significantly for the 1982 FIFA World Cup (reaching over 115,000 at times with standing areas). The stadium has witnessed countless historic moments, including Barcelona’s greatest triumphs. Major renovations occurred in the 1980s and 1990s, but the current ambitious Espai Barça redevelopment began in 2023. The club temporarily played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys during the main works, with a partial return to Camp Nou in late 2025 and full completion expected around 2026–2027.

Ownership and Operations
Camp Nou is owned and operated directly by FC Barcelona, a member-owned club where the socios (members) hold ultimate democratic control. The stadium’s management and the ongoing renovation project are overseen by the club’s board and executive team, with construction partners like Limak involved in the build. This ownership structure ensures the venue remains central to the club’s identity and long-term vision.
