Over the last decade, John Beattie was chairman of ESSMA since 2008, bringing the organisation to 300+ European clubs, stadiums and leagues sharing knowledge & expertise. His track record by moving Arsenal from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium made him a one of the most rewarded stadium directors in Europe. Beattie was involved in the UEFA EURO 2012 safety program and various other advisory roles. He will be succeeded by Francesco Gianello, currently Facilities Management Director at Juventus Football Club. Francesco is involved in ESSMA since its first Summit in Munich (2013) and member of the executive board since 2018. Together with his team he manages the Allianz Stadium and other premises such as two training centers, Club’s headquarters and Juventus Museum.

John Beattie: “It was a real privilege being in this position for so many years. Our industry underwent tremendous changes throughout this period resulting in safer stadium, a significant improvement of stadium quality and progress in quality of staff members. I am very proud the level of cooperation that we have been able to create throughout the industry. Having over 300 stadium experts sharing insights and bast practices on our 11th edition of the ESSMA Summit shows the importance of a European platform to learn from each other.”

Francesco Gianello: “Being appointed as Head of Stadium & Facilities at Juventus in 2010, one year before the opening of the new Stadium, my first visit was to the Emirates Stadium meeting John Beattie, as he is a truly expert in stadium management who changed our industry. It is a big honor being appointed as chairman of ESSMA. I look forward, together with the EXCO and staff members, to further contribute to grow our association, learn from each other and apply new technologies & developments.”

Ludwig Sneyers, managing director ESSMA confirms: “We were privileged having John Beattie for so many years as president of ESSMA. His professionalism, expertise and contribution to unite the stadium industry are recognized by our community. Francesco Gianello is, from the first day he joined ESSMA, sharing best practices and ideas how our industry can move forward. This mindset and approach are essential to move forward together. We really look forward to the next chapter.”
