Arsenal Eyes Major Emirates Expansion

Arsenal is actively preparing a redevelopment of the Emirates Stadium valued at up to £500 million, aiming to increase capacity from 60,700 to beyond 70,000 seats. Proposals under consideration include altering stand gradients and reconfiguring seating layouts, while keeping the stadium’s iconic exterior largely intact.

The club anticipates significantly higher match-day revenues and hopes to ease its season-ticket waiting list, which now exceeds 100,000 names. Due to the complexity and density of its Islington site, internal adjustments are preferred over major structural extensions.

If construction proceeds, Arsenal may temporarily relocate home matches to Wembley Stadium, similar to Tottenham’s previous arrangement. The plans remain at an exploratory stage, with no formal planning application yet submitted.

PSLs Proposed as Manchester United Consults Fans

Manchester United is considering introducing a personal seat licence (PSL) model for its planned 100,000-capacity stadium and has launched a new fan consultation. All match-going supporters — including season ticket holders, official members and hospitality purchasers — are being invited to share their views on facilities, seating and pricing.

The club previously engaged over 50,000 fans in initial research during autumn 2024, which revealed a preference for a new stadium over a redeveloped Old Trafford. The latest survey, conducted by commercial research firm CSL, presents hypothetical product and pricing scenarios across various categories, intended to assess early demand and interest.

United emphasises that no pricing decisions are final and that PSLs would be optional; traditional season tickets would remain available. The club stresses its overarching objective is to balance new stadium financing with affordability and fan culture, ensuring supporters play a genuine role in shaping plans.

Construction Begins at Bosco dello Sport Complex

Work has officially commenced on Venice’s ambitious Bosco dello Sport development, featuring a new 18,500-seat stadium in Tessera that will become Venezia FC’s home ground. The project replaces the club’s ageing Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium and forms part of a wider €300 million sports complex.

Alongside the main stadium, plans include a 10,000-seat indoor arena, aquatics centre, training pitches, and community sports areas. The development is intended to revitalise the mainland district while enhancing the city’s sporting infrastructure. A €121 million initial investment has been allocated for construction, with Venezia FC granted a 40-year management concession.

The project also aims to achieve environmental sustainability targets, incorporating green transport links and energy-efficient design. Once complete, Bosco dello Sport is expected to host football, concerts, and civic events, positioning Venice as a key destination for Italian and European sports tourism.

FC Porto Secures Land for Multi-Sport Facility

FC Porto has reached a landmark agreement with Porto City Council to develop a new multi-sport complex on land previously occupied by the Ramalho Ortigão School. The 70-year lease grants the club long-term control of the site, located adjacent to its current training and academy facilities.

Designed to support youth and women’s football, futsal, basketball, and community engagement, the project reinforces Porto’s commitment to sporting excellence across multiple disciplines. The development will relieve congestion at the Estádio do Dragão and improve access to facilities for local athletes. In addition to new training areas, the site will include educational spaces, administrative offices, and recreational amenities for the public. The initiative aligns with Porto’s broader urban regeneration strategy, combining sport, education, and civic use.

The club views the project as a crucial step towards maintaining its national dominance and strengthening grassroots pathways.

Bournemouth Pushes Vitality Stadium Expansion

AFC Bournemouth has submitted detailed planning applications to expand the Vitality Stadium beyond its current 11,300 capacity, targeting more than 20,000 seats. The proposal, designed by property consultants Savills, involves constructing a new South Stand, extending the Main Stand, and upgrading broadcast, hospitality, and media facilities.

Revised access gates, improved spectator concourses, and a redesigned coach park are also included to streamline match-day operations. The development forms part of a wider regeneration strategy to secure the club’s long-term Premier League presence by increasing ticket revenue and enhancing supporter experience.

Bournemouth has highlighted the expansion’s importance in improving atmosphere and meeting rising demand from fans. Subject to planning approval, preliminary works could begin within the next year, followed by phased construction to minimise disruption. The club’s leadership has described the scheme as vital to ensuring the Vitality remains fit for modern top-flight football standards.

Forest Unveils More Ambitious City Ground Expansion

Nottingham Forest has unveiled a revised and more ambitious redevelopment plan for the City Ground, aiming to lift capacity to between 43,000 and 45,000. The project will centre on a full reconstruction of the Peter Taylor Stand, complemented by new corner seating around the Trent End to create a unified, bowl-style layout.

The club has dropped its earlier proposal for adjacent residential units, instead focusing exclusively on enhancing supporter facilities, circulation areas, and stadium infrastructure. Improvements will include expanded hospitality zones, updated concourses, and upgraded accessibility provisions. Forest’s leadership emphasises that the design maintains the stadium’s riverside heritage while future-proofing it for long-term sustainability.

The revised proposal responds to high ticket demand following the club’s Premier League return, aligning with ambitions to strengthen revenue and fan engagement. Planning submission is expected in late 2025, with phased construction anticipated once approvals are secured.

Oulu Selects Consortium as Veikkaus Arena Reopens

The City of Oulu has appointed the Raksila 2.0 consortium — comprising developers SRV and Trevian — to deliver its forthcoming Oulu Experience Arena project. The arena complex, part of a larger regeneration of the Raksila district, will include a multi-use sports and events venue, retail units, hotels, and leisure spaces.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028, with completion targeted for 2030. The project aims to create a regional hub for entertainment and urban culture in Northern Finland. Meanwhile, in Helsinki, the Veikkaus Arena has officially reopened following an extensive three-year renovation managed by Trevian. The revamped facility features modern hospitality areas, upgraded seating, and enhanced acoustics to attract concerts and international sports events. Together, these developments signal growing national investment in Finnish arena infrastructure, blending commercial viability with community benefits and sustainability principles.

Work Underway at YTL / Cardiff Arena Project

Construction has begun on the £350 million YTL Arena Bristol and Cardiff Arena project, marking a key phase in transforming disused hangars into two world-class live-entertainment venues.

YTL Construction UK has commenced demolition and structural stripping works at the Bristol Filton Airfield site, preparing it for full-scale reconstruction. Once complete, the YTL Arena Bristol will accommodate around 17,000 spectators, positioning it as the South West’s largest indoor venue.

In parallel, early works at the new Cardiff Arena are advancing, forming part of a cross-regional development strategy. Both arenas will host concerts, sports, and cultural events, expected to attract over a million visitors annually. The projects also integrate sustainable building practices, including reusing materials from the existing hangar structure and deploying renewable energy systems. Completion is projected for the early 2030s, promising significant economic and cultural boosts to both cities.
