KAA Gent Tests Palm-Vein Stadium Access: What Europe’s First Large-Scale Trial Reveals

Faced with new national regulations requiring clubs to verify who buys and who enters with a ticket, Gent needed a secure and efficient alternative to manual ID checks. Palmki’s palm-vein technology offered a privacy-friendly solution, allowing supporters to enter the stadium using only their hand — no ticket or smartphone required.

Over 650 season-ticket holders took part in the first trial, with fast adoption across all age groups and no participant dropout. A second test with away supporters demonstrated how biometric fast lanes can reduce queues and improve overall safety and hospitality.

The club’s experience suggests that biometrics may soon evolve into a fan-experience platform, enabling seamless access, payments and loyalty integrations.
