FC Barcelona has received approval to increase the temporary capacity of the Spotify Camp Nou to around 62,000 spectators, marking another step in the ongoing Espai Barça redevelopment project.
The upgrade follows the granting of a new occupancy licence by the Barcelona City Council, allowing the opening of additional seating areas including the Gol Nord section. This represents an increase of roughly 17,000 seats compared with the previous operational capacity of around 45,000 during earlier construction phases.
The expanded capacity means the stadium can now host significantly larger crowds as works continue on the venue’s full transformation. Once completed, the renovated Camp Nou is expected to reach a final capacity of approximately 104,000–105,000 seats, making it one of the largest football stadiums in the world.

Wembley Stadium installs 10,000 safe-standing seats
The Wembley Stadium has been fitted with 10,000 additional licensed safe-standing seats, expanding standing areas for football fixtures at the UK’s national stadium.
The rail seating has been installed on Level 5 in the east and west sections of the stadium following earlier trials of licensed standing areas on Level 1. Each position features a fold-down seat with an independent waist-high rail, allowing supporters to stand safely while maintaining the stadium’s all-seater configuration when required.
The new areas were installed over the winter period and will be used for the first time during the Carabao Cup Final, before hosting additional fixtures including England international matches later in March.
The expansion follows the UK government’s 2022 policy change allowing licensed standing areas in stadiums that meet safety requirements. With the new installation, Wembley now offers one of the largest safe-standing sections in British football, giving supporters greater choice in how they experience matches.

Aviva Stadium delivers record €832m economic impact
The Aviva Stadium generated a record €832m in economy-wide expenditure in 2024, highlighting the growing role of major stadiums as drivers of tourism, employment and economic activity.
According to an independent report by Indecon International Economic & Strategic Consultants, the venue hosted 33 major events during the year, attracting around 1.2 million attendees. These events contributed approximately €130m in tax revenues and supported close to 10,000 full-time equivalent jobs across Ireland.
A significant share of the impact came from international visitors. The report estimates that 129,900 attendees travelled from outside Ireland to attend events at the stadium, generating €417m in additional economic activity that would not otherwise have entered the Irish economy.
Events at the stadium ranged from international rugby and football fixtures to major concerts, corporate events and the annual Aer Lingus College Football Classic, illustrating the venue’s ability to host a diverse calendar of high-profile events. Since opening in 2010, the stadium has welcomed more than 10 million visitors across over 300 events, generating €4.5bn in economic expenditure and supporting around 10,000 jobs annually.
The findings underline the broader economic and social value of multi-use stadiums, positioning the Aviva Stadium as a key piece of Ireland’s event infrastructure and a major contributor to Dublin’s visitor economy.

The new GAMEREADY Hybrid range includes Pre-stitched Turf, which is grown and stitched with hybrid fibres off-site before being harvested and installed as a match-ready surface in just two days. The system allows turf to be prepared around eight weeks in advance, significantly reducing the lead times typically associated with traditional hybrid carpet installations.
The second solution, Rapid-stitch Turf, installs natural turf and stitches the hybrid reinforcement simultaneously. This enables full pitch installations in as little as three days, offering grounds teams a faster option during congested fixture schedules or when stadiums host multiple events. The system uses next-generation hybrid stitching machines capable of reducing installation times by up to 78%, while the lighter machinery minimises stress and compaction on the turf surface.
Both systems are designed to provide a more durable and stable playing surface, with deeper hybrid stitching improving traction, consistency and lifespan. Independent testing has also shown the surfaces can deliver a natural feel while maintaining higher levels of safety and stability compared with traditional hybrid and natural grass pitches.
