RCDE Stadium Voted La Liga’s Best in Surprise Result
In an unexpected outcome, RCDE Stadium, home of RCD Espanyol, has been voted the best stadium in La Liga for the 2024–25 season, beating icons like the Santiago Bernabéu, Metropolitano and Camp Nou.
Chosen by fans, the result highlights a shift in what supporters value most – an intimate atmosphere, good sightlines and fan-friendly facilities, rather than sheer size or fame. Despite its modest capacity, RCDE Stadium impressed with its welcoming feel and strong matchday experience.
The vote suggests fans increasingly favour authentic, community-focused venues over grand mega-arenas. Espanyol’s triumph may encourage other clubs to rethink future designs, placing fan comfort and atmosphere first.
RCDE’s recognition proves that genuine supporter experience can outshine the biggest names in football – and marks a proud moment for the Barcelona-based club and its loyal fans.

FC Eindhoven Plans First All-Wooden Stadium
FC Eindhoven is exploring plans to replace its ageing Jan Louwers Stadion with a new, fully wooden venue in a move that could set new standards for sustainable football architecture.
Currently in the feasibility stage, the Dutch Eerste Divisie club aims to become one of the first in Europe to build a football ground almost entirely from timber.
Supporters of the idea point to timber’s environmental benefits, including lower carbon emissions and renewable sourcing, alongside modern, appealing design.
Although details on capacity and budget remain unconfirmed, the project would align FC Eindhoven with a small but growing group of clubs embracing eco-friendly stadiums, such as Forest Green Rovers in England.
If successful, the plan could transform the club into a sustainability pioneer in mid-tier football. For now, the club says it is too early for timelines – but a green future for Eindhoven football may be on the horizon.

FC Sion Given Go‑Ahead for New Stadion
FC Sion, in partnership with the city of Sion and the canton of Valais, has received approval to replace the ageing Stade de Tourbillon with a brand‑new stadium. Renovation has been ruled out, clearing the way for a major CHF 450 million project financed privately by club president Christian Constantin.
The project includes a roughly 15,000‑seat stadium, to remain on the current site, alongside a modern football academy, scheduled to open in 2026. Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with completion targeted by mid‑2030.
Designed as a multi‑purpose venue, it will host football, concerts and other events, featuring hospitality facilities, retractable roof and permanent stage. The old stadium will remain operational throughout the build.
This ambitious plan marks a new era for FC Sion and the Valais region, combining cutting‑edge sports infrastructure with enhanced community and entertainment offerings.

Venezia FC Greenlit for New 18,500‑Seat Stadium
Venezia FC has secured approval to build a new 18,500‑capacity stadium in Tessera as part of the expansive Bosco dello Sport complex, with construction set to begin mid‑2025 and completion expected by spring 2027 (€92.3 million investment).
Designed by Populous and Maffeis Engineering, the stadium will feature an oval, wave‑inspired façade, fully covered stands, VIP boxes, restaurants, museum space, retail outlets and fitness zones. It will host football, Serie A rugby and concerts, with a photovoltaic roof expected to generate more energy than the building uses.
Venezia FC is seeking a 40‑year concession and has committed €121 million, including infrastructure and operational costs, in partnership with the city and canton.
Plans also include enhanced public transport links and a potential new “Stadio” rail stop, addressing accessibility from central Venice. The current Pier Luigi Penzo stadium will remain in use until at least 2027.
If built as proposed, the project will create a state‑of‑the‑art, eco‑friendly sports hub, blending modern amenities with sustainable design and strong community integration.

Allianz Stadium Unveils Revamped Beaumont Suite
Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, will open its newly refurbished Beaumont Suite this October, offering a fresh, modern space for events.
Above the Captain’s Club in the North Stand, Beaumont holds up to 280 guests and combines contemporary design with playful touches like darts, shuffleboard, Pac-Man and a self-pour beer wall – a first for the stadium.

An upgraded menu of casual bites and premium buffets completes the experience. Together, Beaumont and the Captain’s Club deliver a versatile, engaging setting for today’s event needs.
Green Light for £130 Million Redevelopment of City Ground
Nottingham Forest’s iconic City Ground has received full planning approval from Rushcliffe Borough Council for a major £130 million overhaul – the club’s first significant redevelopment since 1996.
Central to the plans is the demolition of the existing Peter Taylor Stand and its replacement with a new two-tier, 10,000-seat structure. This upgrade will increase the overall capacity to around 35,000 spectators. The project also includes a dramatic cantilevered roof, modern hospitality facilities, a club museum, and an adjacent residential block of approximately 169–170 flats.
While the estimated cost has risen from an initial £94 million to £130 million, club officials have stressed the importance of retaining the stadium on its historic riverside site and enhancing the fan experience. Further improvements could eventually take capacity beyond 40,000, with future plans for the Bridgford End also under consideration.
This redevelopment marks a new era for Nottingham Forest, blending modern facilities with respect for the club’s heritage and riverbank location.

HSV Greenlights Modernisation of Volksparkstadion
Hamburger SV has received approval to begin a major modernisation of Volksparkstadion as the club returns to the Bundesliga and enjoys a healthy financial position. Already debt-free and profit-making for four consecutive years, HSV plans to enhance fan experience with significant stadium upgrades.
Initial works include €30 million spent in preparation for UEFA Euro 2024 – replacing the roof membrane, new floodlights, PA systems and upgraded facilities. A further €7 million is earmarked next season, rising to €20 million in the years that follow. Proposed upgrades include improved catering kiosks, hospitality areas, and possibly expanding capacity from 57,000 to around 60,000 seats.
To fund the next phase without incurring debt, HSV is launching a Supporters Trust cooperative. Club members can buy shares in HSV Fußball AG & Co KGaA – potentially raising up to €100 million from 1.87 million shares priced at about €500 each.
CFO Eric Huwer emphasises that balancing financial prudence with emotional connection is key: “We want functionality and emotion, efficiency and identity.” With fan backing and modernisation underway, HSV is set to enter a new decade of stadium excellence.
